Long Before The Sun Rises
Poetry Selections
LONG BEFORE THE SUN RISES
Long before the sun rises, while some are sleeping hard,
The hunter quietly steps outside heading for the yard,
The winter was severe this year so deer group tight together,
Seeking food beneath the snow in very chilly weather.
Oh God, the hunter prays, give me success this day,
Help my aim to be precise and painless to the prey,
And then he trudges on in snow up to his knees,
Feeling numbness in his hands from the morning breeze.
Suddenly a light shines through breaking up the night,
Oh Lord, he sighs, you’re wonderful -- you fill me with delight.
The brilliant orange and yellow rays bouncing off the snow,
Remind him of his Lord’s redeeming touch of long ago.
Recalling all the hunting trips in drunken wasted days,
His heart is filled with gratitude, his mouth is filled with praise.
He senses God's sweet presence and lifts a smiling face,
To thank HIm for His bounteous love, His mercy and His grace.

As this hunter looked up and saw
the marvelous creation of God
shining before him he is brought
to the remembrance of a time he
refused to acknowledge God, and
his heart is filled with thankfulness
as he remembers God's mercy!
