What I Believe As A Christian
I believe there is one God manifest in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit
and these each have their own function within the Godhead.
I believe the Godhead is closed and that there is no other God, and that all
other gods "little g" are false gods and idols whose worship is condemned.
I believe that there is one body of believers "the church" composed of all those who
have trusted Jesus Christ for their salvation and live to love and serve him.
I believe that all men are born with a sin nature because of the sin of Adam
and Eve, and that the Bible teaches that we are all sinners separated from
God, choose to continue in sin, and are lost and without hope of reconciliation.
I believe that God came down to mankind in the form of a man; that man being the
Lord Jesus Christ, who lived, died, was buried and resurrected from the dead that
all who will repent of their sin and trust him for salvation will be delivered from their
sin and become children of God by faith. There is salvation in no other!
I believe in the resurrection of all the dead both righteous and unrighteous to the
judgment seat of Christ as described in Revelation 20:11-15. The righteous will be
accepted and the unrighteous and unrepentant will be judged and condemned to
be cast into the Lake of Fire; there to be tormented day and night forever and ever.
I believe that the Holy Spirit is given to believers when they are born again and that
He indwells them, and I also believe that there is a Baptism in the Holy Spirit that is
when the Holy Spirit "comes upon the believer" to give him power to minister for the
Lord. This power is granted that the believer may live victoriously in his walk with the
Lord and also that he may speak God's word with power and authority that in so doing
he might lead others to repentance and a true saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. I do
not accept that the only evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit is the gift of tongues and
that all who receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit receive this gift. The scriptures are
crystal clear that the Holy Spirit gives the gifts "severally AS HE WILL." There is no
proof text to support everyone receiving this gift, and Paul in his writings asks this:
"Are all apostles, are all prophets, are all teachers, are all workers of miracles, have
all the gifts of healing, do all speak with tongues, do all interpret?" The obvious
answer to every issue here is NO! To say one is true of everyone and not the others
would be to use isogesis instead of proper exegesis and would only serve to be used
by unscrupulous teachers who refuse to believe anything that doesn't fit their tenets.
On the other hand, the disciples were told, "Ye shall receive POWER after that the
Holy Ghost is come upon you." That is the one thing all believers are guaranteed
to receive. It is this power God has given us that enables us to be "more than
conquerors" and gives us great power over the devil and his demons and assurance
that we can share the good news of salvation with authority that will touch and change
our world and those who live in it. It is this power that brings us to the throne of grace
and enables us to pray as we ought in order that the will of God might be accomplished.
I believe that prayer to God under the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit is the
greatest weapon a Christian has at his disposal and it causes the devil and his minions
to shudder and tremble in anger and fear knowing God answers even the simplest
prayer uttered in faith and severs the bonds the devil would place upon believers and
unbelievers alike. It is the highest call and privilege of all and brings us into the holy
presence of the Almighty and eclipses any experience we will ever have on earth.
One moment in the presence of God in Holy Spirit anointed praise is more blessed
than a million lifetimes of anything else on either side of eternity. Praise the Lord!
I believe the Bible is God's Word and that it will stand forever because God said it will,
and since I know the Author (God), I am sure beyond any doubt that it is his word. I have
prayed many times according to his words and promises and have seen miracles come
and prayers for anything from the simplest request to the deepest answered by our God.
I have stood on this Word for over 37 years, and will stand upon it forever by his grace.
I believe that we are all accountable to God for everything we think, say and do, and
that it is all recorded and will be brought to light on the day of judgment. Those who
trusted Christ for their salvation will have nothing to fear - he will be their advocate.
Everyone else will have nobody to intercede for them and their judgment will be sure.
I believe that God still gives everyone an opportunity this side of eternity to prepare for
the day of judgment, and that Christ is that opportunity. It is incumbent upon everyone
to respond when the Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin and repent and ask forgiveness
for their wickedness that they may receive mercy and salvation from God. Beyond the
grave there will be no more opportunity for salvation. The time is now while we still
have breath in our bodies and the opportunity to answer the call on our own lives.
