THE TWILIGHT
YEARS

Are Older Christians Supposed to Relax and Wait For Christ's Return?

Psalms 71:17-18 - The Prayer of My Heart!
"O' God, thou hast taught me from my youth, and hitherto have I declared thy wonderous works;
Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O' God
forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength
and thy power to everyone that is to come."

If we were to go and be with the Lord today would we want to go empty-handed to our King or would we want to bring a gift worthy of him? What gift would be more worthy to lay at his feet than a soul that he died to save? It is the greatest gift we could offer to him because we bring him the reward of his suffering!
Many of us reach old age and feel we must rest from our labors. Our bodies are tired and our minds weary of so many years of thinking, of struggles, of battling our own flesh, and we want
a place to retreat from the hectic pace of life. And yet, there is still work to be done, people
to bless, souls dying without hope, and our own families that need what God has planted
within us. We need to be there to encourage them as they continue facing the struggles
we have long forgotten and new challenges we have never faced.
This is not the time for rest! Our rest will come when this mortal body puts on immortality
and ceases to be a burden to us. This is a time for reflection of God's goodness to us!
This is a time of impartation of what God has given us; a time to pass on our heritage
to those who will come after us and serve and honor him for his glory.
Age is not to be a hush-hush affair, but a glorious consumation and celebration of a life centered in Christ and lived in his service! It should be a time of fruit bearing as we put all
that God has given us to good use in touching lives for eternity! We should want to go out in a blaze of glory, with our hearts filled with the fire of God and thrilled with the prospect of finally seeing him in all his power and majesty as we bow in adoration as have others who bowed at
his birth and many others who have gone on before us into his kingdom.
Every year is one step closer to the promised land, and each year is pregnant with promise for those whose heart is set like a flint to do all within their power to serve
and honor our Lord. Age is, after all, only a temporary thing! We have the endless
ages of eternity before us, and after trillions of years of our earthly time passes, it
will only be the beginning of a glorious tme in the presence of our great God!
Let's begin today to put aside all excuses for being less and doing less than God
intended for us. Let's move forward toward eternity with Christ leading the way,
giving him his just reward! Then we will hear; "Well done good and faithful servant!"
"To him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not; to him it is sin!" - James 4:17
A WORD ABOUT JOHN WESLEY - I found this piece of paper among my notes about the famous, powerful, evangelist and minister that should cause us to seriously consider the level of dedication we have to the cause of Jesus Christ!
John Wesley travelled 250,000 miles on horseback, averaging 20 miles a day for 40 years; preached 40,000 sermons, produced 400 books, knew 10 languages.
At eighty-three he was annoyed that he could not write more than fifteen hours a day without hurting his eyes, and at eighty-six he was ashamed he could not preach more than twice a day. He complained in his diary that there was an increasing tendency to lie in bed until 5:30 in the morning.
WHEN WE DIE, WE LEAVE BEHIND US ALL THAT WE HAVE AND TAKE WITH US ALL THAT WE ARE! What is our excuse for doing less than our best after reading the great dedication and effort of this giant among men of all time?
